Crochet these soft chicks in our brightest shades of Plush. A
striped nest for the chicks is knit in Ultra® Alpaca and then felted.

Approximately 3" long x 2" high

MATERIALS

1 ball BERROCO PLUSH (50 grs), in color of your choice

Note: 6 Chicks can be made from 1 ball. We used colors #1944 Sprout, #1924 Jazzy Turquoise, #1947 Bubblegum, #1922 Pasty Purple and #1971 Banana.

Crochet hook, size 6.50 mm (K)

Black permanent marker

BODY

With crochet hook, ch 11. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn - 10 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. Rep this row once more.

Shape Head: Next Row: Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, sc in next 10 sc, turn - 13 sc.

Following Row: Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, sc in each sc across, turn - 16 sc.

Inc Row: Ch 1, 2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn - 20 sc.

Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn - 20 sc.

Shape Front of Head and Chest: Row 1: Sl st in first 6 sc, sc in next 8 sc, turn - 8 sc.

Row 2: Sl st in first sc, sc in next 6 sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Fold piece in half lengthwise so that 2 sections of head are together. Starting at center of foundation ch, sew 2 together up tail, along back, around head, then down chest. Fold will be on bottom of Chick. Draw end of yarn up through body and out through center front of head. Knot and trim end at an angle forming beak. Using marker, make small dot on each side of head for eye.

BASKET

Skill level: Easy

SIZE

Approximately 8 1/4” diameter x 3 1/2” high after felting

MATERIALS

1 ball BERROCO ULTRA ALPACA (100 grs), #6233 Rose Spice (pink) and 1 ball #6249 Fennel (green)

1 Set (5) double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 9

Safety pin for marker

Basket

With dpn’s and pink, cast on 110 sts. Divide evenly on 4 needles. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of rnd with safety pin and carry marker up. Work in St st (k EVERY rnd), alternating 2 rnds pink and 2 rnds green until piece measures 9 3/4”.

Shape Bottom: Continuing to work stripes as before, dec as follows:

Rnd 1: K1, * SSK, k14, k2 tog, rep from * to last st, k1 - 98 sts.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Rnd 3: * SSK, k10, k2 tog, rep from * around - 84 sts.

Rnd 4: Knit.

Rnd 5: K1, (SSK, k5, k2 tog) 5 times, k1, (SSK, k5, k2 tog) 4 times, k1 - 66 sts.

Rnd 6: Knit.

Rnd 7: * SSK, k2, k2 tog, rep from * around - 44 sts.

Rnd 8: * SSK, k2 tog, rep from * around - 22 sts.

Rnd 9: * SSK, rep from * around - 11 sts.

FINISHING

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through sts on needles and pull up tightly. Fasten securely and weave in all ends. Wash piece in washing machine using hot water and soap, checking frequently to obtain size you desire. Shape around a mixing bowl turned upside-down, turning edge over for rim. Allow to air dry.
