Hiker's Cookies

1. combine the following in a large bowl, then mix at medium speed:
1 cup shortening
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2/3 cup milk
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 eggs

2. Then add the following and mix at slow speed:
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda

3. Clean off batters and hand-mix the following:
1/2 jar glazed fruit
1/2 package sliced walnuts
1/2 box raisins

4. Mix thoroughly, then blend in by hand 4 cups of oatmeal.
Press down in a greased 12 x 18 inch cookie pan with the back of a wet spoon.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Cut into 24 pieces and wrap in aluminum foil or put in plastic bags.
(If they're not to be eaten within a few weeks, keep in freezer to prevent mold from forming.)
