One each size US G-6 (4mm), or size to obtain gauge.

Blanket measures approximately 50"/127 cm wide x 64"/162.5 cm long

GAUGE

In pattern, using US G-6 (4mm) hook, one motif = 4 1/2 x 4 1/2"/11.5cm.

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (slip st)

SPECIAL TERMS

beg-cl (beginning cluster): Ch 2, yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook); yarn over, insert hook in same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (3 loops on hook); yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

cl (cluster): Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), [yarn over, insert hook in same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (1 additional loop on hook)] twice; yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

MOTIF (make 130 – 22 each with A, B, C, E and F; 20 with D)

Chain 6; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Beg-cl in ring, ch 3, [cl in ring, ch 3] 7 times; join with slip st in beg-cl—8 clusters and 8 ch-3 spaces.

Round 2: 3 sc in each ch-3 space around; join with slip st in first sc—24 sc.

Note: Piece will cup at this point creating a raised floral center.

Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in next 2 sc, ch 3, [dc in next 3 sc, ch 3] 7 times; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—24 dc and 8 ch-3 spaces.

Round 4: Sc in same st as join, sc in next 2 dc, 5 sc in next ch-3 space, [sc in next 3 dc, 5 sc in next ch-3 space] 7 times; join with slip st in first sc—64 sc.

Round 5: Slip st in next sc, ch 3, (3 dc, ch 1, 4 dc) in same sc (corner made), *skip next 3 sc, sc in next 9 sc, skip next 3 sc, (4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc) in next sc (corner made); repeat from * 2 more times, skip next 3 sc, sc in next 9 sc, skip next 3 sc; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—32 dc, 36 sc, and 4 corner ch-1 spaces..

Round 6: Slip st in next dc, ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), *(dc, ch 3, dc) in corner ch-1 space, [ch 2, skip next 2 sts, dc in next st] 5 times, ch 2; repeat from * 2 more times, (dc, ch 3, dc) in corner ch-1 space, [ch 2, skip next 2 sts, dc in next st] 4 times, ch 2; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch—28 dc, 24 ch-2 spaces, and 4 corner ch-3 spaces..

Round 7: Slip st in next ch-2 space, ch 2 (counts as hdc), 2 hdc in same ch-2 space, *(3 hdc, ch 1, 3 hdc) in corner ch-3 space, 3 hdc in next 6 ch-2 spaces; repeat from * 2 more times, (3 hdc, ch 1, 3 hdc) in corner ch-3 space, 3 hdc in next 5 ch-2 spaces; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—96 hdc and 4 corner ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.

Arrange motifs according to assembly diagram. With RS facing, using yarn needle and matching yarn, whipstitch motifs together. Hint: Begin at edge of blanket and work in stair-step fashion so that sewing color matches block color.

Edging

Round 1: With RS facing, join D with sc in any corner space ch-1 space, (ch 3, sc) in same ch-1 space, **[ch 3, skip next 3 hdc, sc between previous and next hdc] 7 times, ch 3, *sc in next seam, [ch 3, skip next 3 hdc, sc between previous and next hdc] 7 times, ch 3; repeat from * to next corner ch-1 space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch-1 space; repeat from ** 2 more times; [ch 3, skip next 3 hdc, sc between previous and next hdc] 7 times, ch 3; join with slip st in first sc.

Round 2: *(2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in corner ch-3 space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each ch-3 space to next corner; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Round 3: Join F with slip st in any corner ch-3 space, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1, dc) in same corner ch-3 space, (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-3 space to next corner, *(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 3, dc, ch 1, dc) in corner ch-3 space, (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-3 space; repeat from * around; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch. Fasten off.
