Follow these steps and tips by Mary Strouse to create your own pot holder.

Finished Size: 7" square (not including optional hanging loop)

Materials and Tools:

Lilys Sugar & Cream Art p30HC by Spinrite or 100% cotton worsted yarn 2-1/2 oz. Delft Blue # 28
Caron Christmas Glitter worsted weight acrylic 95%, 5% metallic wrap in 7201 white
tapestry needle
G hook or hook size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge: 4sc = 1"; 4 single crochet rows = 1"
Basic Stitches: ch, st, ss

For pot holder:

Note: Do not join rounds unless otherwise stated. Mark first st of each rnd.

Rnd 1: Delft Blue, ch 39, sc in each ch across with 2sc in last ch; working on opposite side of ch, sc in last 37 chs, join with a ss in first sc. (76 sc made)

Folding illustration shows last round folded to center.

Rnd 2-19; Sc in first 18 sts leaving remaining sts unworked

Fasten off.

Fold according to illustration. Side with opening will be back of pot holder. Solid side will be front. Lay aside.

For snowflake:

Rnd 1: white glitter yarn, ch 6, ss in first ch to form a circle

Rnd 2: *ch 8, ss in center of circle*, (Repeat between *s 5 times) equals 6 loops

Rnd 3: ch 8,ss in 5th ch, * ch 6, ss in 3rd ch, ch 6, ss in 3rd ch, ch 5, ss in ss between ch 6 loops in Rnd 2* (repeat between *s 5 times)

Place snowflake on top side of unsewn pot holder. Pin in place. Sew snowflake to pot holder working from back side to front. Remove pins as you sew.

Finishing:

Matching sts, sew back opening closed.

Optional hanging loop: ss in st at top center corner, ch 9, ss in same st, ss in next 9 chs. Fasten off.
